Cerberus continued the use of the M1575 hybrid motor from previous years, but also uniquely incorporated three solid motors in parallel ignition to support its larger diameter and size. These three solid rocket boosters, also known as Take-Off Assist Motors (TAMS), provided the extra thrust needed for Rocket Project's ambitious payload project. While the original payload design included a glider capable of autonomous flight, this payload was scaled down later in the year due to lack of time and resources. Instead, the payload featured a wooden, deployable glider with onboard electronics for tracking. In addition, the recovery system was refined and tested for reliability. Major work was also done in the 2015-2016 school year to overhaul the ignition system in order to replace the several year old "yellow box" and promote member education. A new Ground Operations team was created to this end. Cerberus flew successfully at IREC to just over 6300 ft.
